Niel Erasmus
Project Manager
Niel joined Stead Construction in 2023 as a Project Manager bringing nine years of experience in the Construction industry. Niel has a Bachelor of Construction Degree majoring in Construction Management and has worked for a number of Construction companies specialising in large scale housing developments. Auckland based Niel brings significant expertise and experience to that geographical and industry segment. Out of work Niel enjoys the outdoors.
Jason Max
Site Manager
Jason joined Stead Construction in 2023 as a Site Manager. A qualified builder Jason brings with him 14 years of experience in the Construction industry. He has managed the construction of multiple high-end residential, aged care facilities and large scale multi-level and high-density residential construction projects. Auckland based Jason brings significant expertise and experience to that geographical and industry segment. Out of work Jason is a volunteer fire fighter.
Aaron Smith
Construction Manager
Aaron completed his apprenticeship with Stead Construction from 2007 to 2010. He left at the end of 2011 and moved to Perth, Western Australia where he worked on major Mining infrastructure (Iron Ore, Gas) all-over North-West Australia for 4 years. His work whilst in Australia included working as a Site Supervisor, overseeing the Subiaco Waste Water Treatment Plant upgrade, and oversaw the construction of large Sub Structure and Superstructure Insitu concrete projects. Aaron returned to NZ and rejoined Stead Construction in late 2019.
Alo O’Leary
Construction Manager
Alo joined Stead Construction early 2018 and has over 15 years of experience in the building industry, ranging from top end renovations, re-piling, residential, shop fit outs, light commercial, asbestos removal and now medium commercial projects.
Bill Gardner
Site Manager
An experienced Site Manager, Bill joined Stead Construction in 2011 after running his own building company for 15 years. Bill has grown Stead Construction presence in the Gisborne and East Coast Region, and now runs a team of over 12 full time construction staff.
Daryl Edwards
Site Manager
Working within the building industry for over 20 years since leave High School, Daryl has been involved in all aspects from residential and commercial builds, office fit-outs, asbestos removal and renovations – all the while striving to deliver the client’s vision. Outside of work Daryl can be found on the mountain slopes and enjoying the outdoors with family and friends
Evert Metz
Site Foreman
Evert (better known as Stretch) has been an integral part of Stead Construction since the company’s inception. Formerly from Wairoa, Evert has a wealth of knowledge gathered over his 40 years within the construction industry including bridge building, power station and large infrastructure projects.
Heath Castles
Construction Manager
Heath joined Stead Construction in 2014, previously building in Auckland for 10 years, leading teams in the commercial and residential sector. Previous to the construction industry, Heath had experience in mining construction and had worked overseas to broaden his learning of the building industry in global context. As a Site Foreman, Heath has run jobs locally and out of the Hawkes Bay for 4 years, and is currently focused on Government and MOE projects.
Jace Goodin
Construction Manager
Jace has been in the construction industry for 20+ years and brings a wealth of knowledge having worked a variety of roles in both the residential and commercial sectors. Since joining Stead in 2019, Jace has been involved in the completion of a number of key commercial projects including Kmart and Torpedo7 in Napier.

Jason Hutt
Site Foreman
Jason has 15 years’ experience as a fibrous plasterer and 7 years as a house builder before coming to work for Stead Construction. Since joining in 2013 as a carpenter, Jason has worked his way up to a Site Foreman position.
Josh Smiley
Site Foreman
Josh joined Stead Construction late 2022 and has over 10 years experience in the new residential and renovation sectors. When not on the work site you will find Josh at the beach surfing or fishing.
Mark Baylis
Project Design Manager
With over 40 years experience, Mark – a registered Architect – has worked nationally and internationally within the construction sector including design, documentation, site observation and management as well as development feasibility studies and construction detailing.
Prior to joining Stead Construction, Mark was with the Ministry of Education in Hawke’s Bay as the Delivery Team Manager working on projects such as the Flaxmere College Redevelopment, the Te Kura Kimi Ora and the Te Kura Kopapa Maori Te Wananga Whare Tapere o Takitimu.
Outside of work hours you will find Mark enjoying time on the tennis court, working on a charity he is Chairman of, spending time with his four adult children and their families, and travelling.
Nick Blackwood
Project Manager
Nick has almost 20 years’ experience in the construction industry and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Stead team, having gained experience across many disciplines, including educational, residential, retail and commercial. Nick’s management skills, technical knowledge and his ability to drive partners and team members to meet and exceed challenging timescales and budgets has ensured the successful outcome of all projects he has worked on.

Sam Fuhrer
Site Foreman
Sam re-joined Stead Construction in February 2022 after working within other areas of the Bay on some large architectural and commercial builds. While previously employed with Stead Sam worked on Ministry of Education and commercial projects. Sam’s strengths are strong communication, ability to think outside the box and attention to detail. Outside of work you will find Sam spending time with his family and friends and enjoying everything ocean related.
Tom Ashe
Project Manager
Tom joined Stead Construction when the company started some 14 years ago. In that time Tom has been a carpenter, Foreman, Construction Manager and now as a Project Manager / Quantity Surveyor. Tom is actively involved in the recruitment of our construction staff and the overseeing of our Apprentices.

Phil Stead
Plant Manager
As a former business owner within the residential construction sector, Phil enjoys the daily challenges thrown at him. Responsible for resourcing the various teams, Phil ensures the appropriate tools and resources are available.
Brenden Esprey
Plant Manager
Brenden joined Stead Construction in September 2022 as the Plant Supervisor working alongside Phil. Brenden is a Diesel Mechanic by trade with over 20 year’s experience within the Transport and Marine industries. In his role as the Plant Supervisor, Brenden will be managing the overall operation and maintenance of Stead Plant. Out of work you will find Brenden either on a rugby field, a kick boxing ring, riding mountain bikes or sharing a braai with his wife and three sons.
Mita Patu
Site Manager
Mita recently relocated back to New Zealand from Australia and has an extensive knowledge of Civil and Commercial Construction. Mita worked on the the $1.2B Chinchilla Coal Power Station in Queensland, and his roles in Australia included Site and Project Management.
Phil Elms
Project Manager
Phil joined Stead Construction in 2017 after 10 years as a client-side project manager in the education sector. Trade based qualified, Phil joined the organisation providing management experience in the education sector. Since then, Phil has been responsible for many construction projects in his time at Stead Construction, ranging across wide and varied project types.

Tracy McKenna
Site Manager
Tracy has been with Stead Construction for some time, and he has completed an array of projects varying from large scale commercial to small education projects. He is results driven and performs his role as a Site Manager effectively.
Ashley Dagg
Quantity Surveyor
Ashley graduated from Victoria University in 2013 with a degree in Building Science. He joined a Wellington based main contractor prior to his graduation as an Estimator where he was involved in tendering potential work. After two years of estimating, he moved into a dual project management / quantity surveying role where he managed the delivery and financial aspects of his projects from acceptance to hand over. He left at the end of 2017 and moved to the UK where he worked as a Quantity Surveyor for a global main contractor in their interior fit-out division. After 2 years Ashley returned to Hawkes Bay where he grew up and joined Stead Construction in 2019.
Brooke Gedye
Quantity Surveyor
Brooke came to us in 2021 as a Cadet Quantity Surveyor studying at Massey University. Newly graduated, Brooke now forms part of our Quantity Surveying team based in Hawke’s Bay.
Brooke has strong measuring and contract administration abilities and has been a welcome addition to our team.
Cameron Allan
Quantity Surveyor
In addition to a National Diploma in Construction (Quantity Surveying) Cameron also brings experience from a specialist Quantity Surveying firm where he worked on residential and commercial projects for clients in New Zealand and the UK. Since joining Stead Construction, Cameron has been involved with a variety of residential and commercial projects from tender through to the construction phase.
Dylan Lawson
Quantity Surveyor / Project Manager
A recent graduate, Dylan joined the QS team in January 2024. With his National Diploma in Construction (Quantity Surveying) and his previous experience as a Junior Project Manager for a local residential roofing company, he brings both academic knowledge and practical insight to his role with Stead Construction
Ryan Scott
Quantity Surveyor
A family man at heart, Ryan joined Stead Construction in 2016. He brought to Stead Construction an expertise in cost management and tendering. Qualified with National Diploma in National Quantity Surveying, Ryan has over 20 years of experience in this field.

Jeremy Stead
Managing Director / Quantity Surveyor
Prior to creating Stead Construction Jeremy had experience contracting and working for professional Quantity Surveying firms in Wellington and Napier. A qualified builder, Jeremy is passionate about the construction industry and has enabled Stead Construction to expand to become a dynamic and innovative business.

Brett Phillips
Director / Project Manager
Brett is a qualified Architectural Draughtsman who has been with Stead Construction since 2011. In his time at Stead Construction, Brett has managed a vast array of projects and enjoys working directly with the teams on the ground to achieve successful outcomes for all parties. In June 2019, Brett accepted a higher leadership role within the company, becoming a Director of Stead Construction.
Vanessa Treseder
General Manager
Vanessa joined Stead Construction in its infancy years after managing much larger companies outside of the construction industry. In 2008 Vanessa was appointed General Manager. Vanessa’s drive for personal and company success sees her recognised as a leading female within a male dominated industry.
Kay Howes
Financial Executive
Kay joined Stead Construction in January 2015. She was initially employed as an Office Administrator but then moved into more of the “high-end” accounting as new office staff were employed. Kay’s main role has been to reconfigure the accounting system to better suit the needs of the Directors and General Manager with regards to real-time Management Reporting.
Charlotte Redshaw
Office Administrator
Charlotte is the first point of call when anyone either contacts or visits the Stead Construction office. Charlotte started with Stead Construction in 2017, and is considered to be a very integral and important member of our staff.
